Well today is the day. Off to Japan and one hell of a commute which started this morning at 5am. Hadn’t packed so needed to get up a bit earlier to be ready for Kieron and his old man to pick me up at 7:30′ish. Got to heathrow and met up with Mat who was coming back from another skiing holiday he had just been to in France!
Decided to upgrade as a lot of the a lot of flights were soft booked (not full). The three of us upgraded for £179 each to World Traveller Plus which was well worth the money for our 11 hour journey. Loads of leg room and much larger seats which meant that we could actually get some sleep without feeling cramped up and stiff at the other end. Flight was ok apart from annoying loud yank in front who liked to jump over the seats….
Landed in Narito airport about an hour outside Tokyo at about 9:30 japanese time and caught an hour train to tokyo station with the JR train company. We then had 30 minutes until the bullet train which was about 1 1/2 hours north westerly to Nagano Station. From there we had to catch a coach up to the area of Hakuba. The coach took about an hour and we arrived at 3:30 in the resort! I have been up 25 1/2 hours by now…
The hotel we are staying at is called the Penke Panke lodge and is in the district of Wadano, part of the olympic village. They held the Winter olympics at Hakuba in 1998. The lodge is very laid back with minimal comforts but great atmosphere as everyone just chills in the lounge together – very bohemian. I feel like i’m travelling again. Went out to the slopes and bumped into nathan, floody and met craig, janine and daryl … The rest are coming tomorrow… Long day but great start to the holiday.
